EXCELLENT Based on 29 reviews chung31720182024-12-25Verified Perfect Western Mongolia trip!! My husband and I did a 7d6N Winter tour with Discover Altai, and it was the best experience we had! The trip including all accomodations, activities, food, and transport was was entirely taken care of by our wonderful guide Nurga, skillful driver Siku and awesome cook Indira. The 3 of them accompanied and took care of us the entire trip! All we did was eat and enjoy! All our expectations were met and more! We stayed with the nomad and eagle hunter families, rode horses, visited a well-known throat singer in his home, did ice fishing, and even milked a yak! We also tried many local dishes and tried different types of meat!Even though we were not able to stay in a Mongolian ger due to the season, Nurga made it happen for us when we just briefly mentioned about it. He immediately planned a visit to a family living in a ger and we were able to eat and try on their traditional clothes and take pictures! Interaction with the families were great as Nurga did all the translations for us and it was wonderful to learn about the families' nomadic life. Nurga also accompanied us on our last day in Ölgii to shop for souvenirs and local goodies, and made sure we got the authentic and affordable cashmere. He also went out of the way help us look for more wool socks even when all shops are closed. We are so happy that we got Nurga as our guide. Would highly recommend Nurga to all who is looking for an honest and down to earth guide who strives to make your vacation as enjoyable and memorable as possible. All in all, we totally enjoyed our time in Mongolia and our hearts are so full. Thank you Nurga, Siku and Indira!! We look forward to our next trip soon, perhaps in the summer time! Adrian A2024-11-26Verified Best tour in mongolia Nurgabat is the most amazing tour guide I have ever had. He went above and beyond to make my trip perfect. I had many custom requests and he tried his best to make it all possible. I definitely recommend him and will go back to him! carolinebkwok2024-11-25Verified A great guide makes all the difference Nurga was our guide on our trip to Western Mongolia. Nurga was the only English speaking of the team and he was a gem. A gentleman. Always there to make sure we were comfortable, looked after and safe. Happily answered all our many questions, translated for us at eagle hunter homes. It was this interaction that got Mr Khan singing with his dombiri for us and the next day bringing his golden eagle on horseback to visit us. He let us sit on the horse with the eagle on our hand. It was an awesome experience! Mr Khan also showed us videos of his eagle landing a catch and when he released the eagle back to the wild. Nurga helped me to get access to the internet. Took photos for us. We chatted about life in Mongolia for him & his family and we learnt a lot. If he could do it, he did it to make our trip a memorable one.At Base Camp, Altai Tavan Bogd National Park, it had snowed heavily. The North Face tent coped with the heavy snow. It was cold. My husband wanted to go for a walk so Nurga obliged. It kept snowing. They returned covered with snow, cold & wet.The guide for the only other traveller at Base Camp went missing as it snowed heavily and there was white out. Nurga donned his wet gear and went out to try and find him. Incredibly unselfish of him.It was a long 18 or 19km walk from White River uphill to Base Camp. There were only small patches of snow near the top. I managed it. We were all tired. Going down should have been easier except there was knee deep snow and I knew it would be tough. I asked Nurga if I could hire a horse but there were none available. So I started the slow trek down. Somehow Nurga managed to convince a local horseman to let me have the horse and I was so grateful. Nurga led the horse all the way for my H&S. All the way down I was thinking how fortunate I was. Thank you Nurga. I will always remember what you did for me and your care. A great guide. Enjoyed his work. Always had the people in his care first in mind. I wish him all the best.We found Nurga very knowledgeable, very experienced and his care for us exceptional. Our comfort and safety was top most on his mind. As well as making sure we had a memorable trip in West Mongolia. He worked well with the team of driver & chef and all the other support like porters, cameleers, mountain guide and even helping with a mountain search in white out conditions. He answered all our questions as best as he could and shared insight on what life In Mongolia was like. I can totally recommend Nurga. Adventure086131740512024-11-25Verified Altai Mountains and Eagle Festivals The Altai / Ölgii area of Western Mongolia is an amazing place. We went to experience an eagle festival and experience the Altai mountains. Nurga was our constant guide from the time we met at the hotel in Ölgii till we left from Altai airport back to UB. We could not have asked for a more attentive guide. The eagle festivals (one local) and the larger tourist oriented Sagsai Festivals were over and above what I wanted to experience. I got some amazing photographs (still bein edited). Every day there was a surprise and delight to discover. We are experienced independent travellers but know when a great guide adds so much to your experience. Most locals don’t speak English and you need a good interpreter and local connections to really experience the place. I found delight in driving through the spaghetti dirt roads to the National Park and in discovering the inside of a very old yurt in Singu. Nurga accompanied me to hike to the Mongolian-Russian border on a saddle in the National Park in a white out!! That was a real experience. Getting to a small local eagle festival before the bigger tourist orientated Sagsai eagle festival was a real bonus. Our interactions with the eagle hunter families was so much more meaningful with a great guide. We got to observe their daily life.Nurga will definitely look after you well. Always happy to oblige without being in your face. You have freedom to roam (safely). Visit Western Mongolia now before it is overrun by tourism (as most hot destinations are now). i-am-a-traveller-sg2024-10-19Verified Exceptional experience to Altai region A key deciding factor between a nice trip and a awesome one is the experience created by the Guide. Just when you are tired and hungry, your guide would quickly catch on (without you asking) to offer you hot tea and snacks; when we are caught in a sudden rain, your guide negotiates with other tour groups to borrow their tentage to wait out.Definitely many more "go the extra mile" examples that I experienced, making this a memorable and enjoyable one! Terry M2024-10-01Verified The best guide of all I had an incredible experience with Nur as my guide during my trip to the Altai Mountains. As a solo traveler joining a group, Nur made sure I felt comfortable and included throughout the journey. He was attentive, informative, and patient, ensuring we made the most of every moment. Our trek through the Tavan Bogd National Park was exceptionally well organized, and Nur’s expertise made us all feel secure and well taken care of—from the delicious meals to the stunning scenery we encountered.Nur's deep knowledge of the region, along with his strong connections with the local people, truly enhanced the experience. Highlights of the trip included visiting an eagle hunter and spending time with a local nomadic family, offering an authentic glimpse into the culture of Western Mongolia. If you're considering a journey to this beautiful part of the world, I can't recommend Nur's tour enough.
